Island Rab, Croatia

Island Rab is situated just off the coast of northern Croatian near Pag and Krk islands. This boasts of a very interesting history and is called as the Happy Island these days.  

Rab, or originally Arba back then, was initially mentioned in the Greek source during 360 BC. Right now, the island and its entire length of 22 kilometers bustle with tourists on summer months. 

The island can be recognized by its four Church towers forming the outline, the cathedral, the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary’s bell tower, the Church of St. Justine’s bell tower, the Church of St. John the Evangelist’s bell tower, and the Church of St. Andrew the Apostle’s belfry.

There are many attractions dotting the Island Rab but some of the places you shouldn’t miss visiting are the following:

Paradise Beach 

This white sandy beach, that you can visit with sailing boat rental Croatia, located on the island’s northernmost tip is famous for its numerous beach sports and clear blue waters. It has well-preserved natural surroundings, and its beach is famous for being safe, thanks to the supervision of professional and skilled lifeguards.

The beach is perfect for swimming, parasailing, playing volleyball, trying water slides, enjoying different activities, relaxing, tasting special foods of the island, and partying. If you’re a recreational diver, you can also enjoy the beautiful underwater world by opting for prescription diving masks to have a clear underwater vision.

Komrcar Park 

Komrcar Park spans over an 8-hectare area along the coast, with green scenery spreading against the island’s white towers. With its extensive variety of local and exotic plants and trees, the park shines with its own natural beauty that attracts plenty of visitors.

The fresh air, the wide and clear pathways, migrating birds, and the charming sounds of insects make this park the perfect spot to connect with nature and take a stroll. 

Dominis Palace

Dominis Palace is a building of Renaissance style established during the 15th century. It is a spectacular structure with Gothic features and outstanding doorways and windows. Among the prominent features of the building is its doorway with the emblem that bears the coat of arms of the Rab’s renowned patrician family. This is a stunning architecture that showcases fine and stellar craftsmanship. 

Monastery of St. Euphemia

The Monastery of St. Euphemia has stood tall and proud since the 13th century. This is home to old texts, exciting books, and valuable documents. The church inside the monastery is also decorated with pretty paintings, Gothic-style windows, and beautiful altars. The library of the monastery and the ethnographic museum are also worth mentioning. The museum also houses an interesting coin collection and objects belonging to different periods in history. 

St. John Church

This marvelous structure is a medieval building established between the 10th and 11th centuries. This church underwent restoration during the Roman period, and this work of art was further enhanced with the addition of the bell tower.

In the 19th century, the structure suffered from damage, and today, the bell tower and a few columns are the only ones left standing still. This fantastic place deserves exploration and is among Island Rab’s most visited historical spots.
